Providing Support to Informal Care Workers
In this paper, the author demonstrates numerous practices that can be mostly applied by Governments, officials, and employers, to help care workers remain in the labour market, accommodate their care needs, and enhance their prospects of becoming formal professionals. In short, according to the article, respite care programs and counselling services should help to alleviate caregiving burdens and stress, since caregivers’ well-being is crucial. Information Centers must operate to keep the caregiver informed about support services he/she might be eligible for. Professional recognition and incentive compensation should encourage caregivers’ development. And, last but not least, working schedules should be flexible to encourage the caregiver to combine other different activities such as formal education.
