Opportunities for Work (Mi-WOW) – New Communities Partnership

Mi-WOW is New Communities Group’s newest project. It seeks to explore and overcome specific barriers that migrant women face in Ireland when looking for work. The project was designed to empower migrant women, to help them increase their self-confidence, realise their potential and upskill them in order to access the Irish job market and/or progress in their career according to their professional goals.

Coordinated and run by migrant women and funded by the Department of Justice and Equality, Ireland’s Structural and Investment Funds Programme (2014-2020) and the European Social Fund (ESSF).

Mi-WOW offers 3 programmes:
1. Public Conversation Hubs – a space for migrant women, migrant-descendent women, and HR staff to come together and discuss and share information on employment rights, the immigration system in Ireland, the importance of networking and unconscious bias in the workplace.
2. Returning to the workforce training for migrant women – IT upskilling, communication skills for work, one-to-one guiding sessions for each participant (2 sessions) and follow-up support after the training, for up to 6 months.
3. Hiring for Diversity Training – for HR staff and/or people involved in the hiring process. Aims to build bridges to overcome the issues migrant women face in the Irish labour market.
